Asylum Seeker Accused of Bus Hijacking and Crash

A 33-year-old man, identified as an asylum seeker of no fixed abode who allegedly entered the country illegally on May 2nd, faces a total of 10 charges stemming from three separate incidents between September 16th and 18th. The majority of the charges relate to an incident on Court Street in Madeley, Telford, where the man is accused of assaulting a bus driver and stealing his vehicle.
The stolen bus was reportedly driven along Park Way before crashing into several parked cars. Fortunately, the bus driver was not seriously injured during the incident. West Mercia Police acknowledged the assistance provided by members of the public to the driver.
Further charges against the accused include threats to kill and assault on an emergency worker from an incident on September 16th, and theft from a store on September 17th. He has not entered a plea and has been remanded in custody pending a hearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court on October 19th. An online fundraiser for the bus driver and witnesses has garnered over £6,000.
