21 Jan
Summary
- Victims can now register FIRs from home or preferred location.
- Initiative aims to reduce trauma for victims, especially women and children.
- Police will visit victims to register complaints and record statements.

Telangana is set to launch a groundbreaking initiative within the next week, allowing victims of serious offenses to register First Information Reports (FIRs) from their homes or any chosen location. This move by the Crime Investigation Department (CID) aims to shield victims, especially women and children involved in sensitive cases, from additional trauma.
Under the new system, police officers will visit the victim to register the complaint and record mandatory statements as per the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. This doorstep service will extend to various offenses, including those against the body, property, and special laws like the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. Victims will receive a copy of the FIR on-site.
This initiative prioritizes victim safety, dignity, and convenience, as stated by additional director general of police, Charu Sinha. The standard operating procedures have been finalized, aiming to strengthen public confidence in the justice system by reducing the burden on vulnerable individuals.
