Two boys, aged 13 and 14, have been taken into custody by Sussex Police following a suspected arson incident. The arrests are in connection with a fire that erupted at the former College Of The Holy Child Jesus in St Leonards on Thursday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the blaze at the disused convent, located on Magdalen Road, shortly after 5 PM BST. The fire reportedly began on the third floor of the historic building, which ceased operations as a Catholic college in 1976.
Magdalen Road and adjacent streets remained closed on Friday morning as investigations continued. Authorities advised the public to use alternative routes. The convent, later used as a language school, has fallen into disrepair, though its chapel is a Grade II listed structure.
