On November 3, 2025, a 15-year-old girl named Amy Chance was arrested and charged with felony criminal mischief after she attacked a Port St. Lucie police cruiser with a metal shovel. According to the police department, officers were called to Chance's family home for a disturbance, and what followed was captured on the officer's bodycam.
The footage shows Chance, shovel in hand, advancing straight toward the parked patrol car and striking its hood several times without any apparent provocation. With a taser trained on her, Chance briefly confronted the officer before complying and dropping the shovel. She was then arrested and taken into custody without further incident.
Authorities stated that Chance's actions caused over $1,200 worth of damage to the police vehicle. "Regardless of age, resorting to intentional damage of people or property in our city will result in an arrest," the Port St. Lucie Police Department said in its press release. The reasons behind Chance's attack on the police cruiser remain unclear.
