In Junagadh, a sessions court has handed down simple life imprisonment sentences to 19-year-olds Minakshi Bamaniya and Amit Parmar. They were convicted for the brutal murder of Minakshi's mother, Daksha, which occurred on the night of May 26, 2023. The prosecution successfully built a case using extensive electronic and forensic evidence, overcoming the challenge of several key witnesses, including family members, becoming hostile during the trial.
The investigation revealed a meticulously planned murder. Minakshi, secretly dating Amit while her father was away, administered a sedative to her mother before letting Amit into their home. When Daksha awoke and discovered them, an argument ensued, leading Minakshi to strike her mother with a heavy iron wrench. The postmortem report detailed 16 lacerations and severe skull fractures. Minakshi initially attempted to conceal the crime by falsely claiming her mother had a divine possession.
Investigators presented crucial evidence such as incriminating Instagram chats between Minakshi and Amit discussing sedatives and a video showing them together at the house shortly before the murder. Forensic reports corroborated the sedative's presence and the nature of the fatal injuries, confirming they were not self-inflicted. The court found the couple guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
