A 16-year-old teenager, Henry Gonzales, has received a 14-year prison sentence for the fatal road rage shooting of Porfirio Medina, aged 45. The incident transpired last August when Medina, driving a scooter, nearly collided with a car occupied by Gonzales. Medina subsequently followed the car to an intersection.
Medina approached the passenger side of the vehicle, and Gonzales then shot him in the chest. The vehicle fled the scene without reporting the incident or seeking aid. Law enforcement identified Gonzales using surveillance, license plate readers, and cell phone data.
Gonzales confessed to illegally purchasing the handgun just days before the shooting, acknowledging it was illegal for him to possess. He later sold the weapon out of concern he might use it again. He pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter, a serious felony, as stated by County Attorney Rachel Mitchell.
