A daring escape attempt by an 18-year-old suspect took an unexpected turn when he inadvertently ran into the crime branch office after slipping away from police custody. The suspect, identified as Ashish alias Golu, was being escorted from Civil Hospital to a police vehicle when he feigned a foot injury and broke free.
His escape route led him over a boundary wall into the compound of the crime branch, which shares a rear wall with the hospital staff quarters. Alerted by a cook within the office, crime branch officers swiftly apprehended Ashish, ending his brief bid for freedom.
Ashish and his accomplices were initially arrested on December 7 in Kurukshetra for kidnapping a 20-year-old man and extorting Rs 37,000. The gang had lured victims through the LGBTQIA+ dating app Grindr. All victims have since been rescued, and police seized incriminating evidence including a Scorpio car and mobile phones. An additional FIR has been registered against Ashish for escaping custody.
