A 17-year-old boy from Lucknow, facing significant debt from online gaming, orchestrated a fake kidnapping and death to extort money from his father. The teenager had previously incurred debts of approximately Rs 70,000 and subsequently lost another Rs 50,000 through online games. When his family stopped funding his habit, he devised a plan.
On October 20, after leaving home, the boy removed his SIM card and used Wi-Fi to send WhatsApp messages to his family, claiming he had been kidnapped. He then sent a voice note with a disguised voice, demanding a ransom of Rs 5 lakh. To add further pressure, he falsely reported his own death.
Worried about his son's safety, the father managed to arrange Rs 3 lakh. However, a police investigation led by DCP Jitendra Kumar Srivastava revealed the teenager's involvement in the conspiracy. The police successfully located the boy, who was found unharmed with his girlfriend, thus exposing the elaborate deception.
