A tragic turn of events unfolded in Purnia when a 19-year-old college student, Manisha Kumari, died on Monday evening. She had eloped with her boyfriend, Dilkhush Kumar, hours earlier and married him at Purnia Junction railway station.
Manisha, a BA Part-I student from Araria district, and Dilkhush, an Intermediate student, had been in a relationship for about a year, having met on Instagram. They decided to elope when Manisha's family arranged her marriage to someone else.
The couple traveled from Araria to Purnia, where Dilkhush married Manisha at the railway station. Later that evening, while visiting a temple, Manisha complained of severe dizziness and her health rapidly deteriorated.
Dilkhush, with assistance from locals, took her to Govt Medical College Hospital, Purnia, where she succumbed to her illness during treatment. Police have detained Dilkhush and are investigating the sequence of events leading to Manisha's death, awaiting the post-mortem report for the exact cause.
