A teenager accused of murdering 15-year-old Amen Teklay reportedly "confessed" to stabbing him through the heart, the High Court in Glasgow has heard. Prosecutors allege that the 16-year-old and a 17-year-old assaulted Amen in Glasgow's St George's Cross area on March 5 last year.
They are then accused of chasing Amen and fatally stabbing him with a sword on Clarendon Street. A witness, who was initially arrested for the murder, testified in court that the accused admitted the stabbing. This youth stated the accused confessed to him at school.
During the trial, the court heard the witness's recorded evidence, where he recalled the 16-year-old accused knew Amen was in the area. The witness also stated the 16-year-old on trial told him Amen was stabbed in the chest and through the back, with blood covering his face.
The defense for the 16-year-old has lodged a special plea of self-defense. Evidence was also presented from the father of the younger accused, who described his son returning home frightened and pale on the night of the incident, making an unusual comment about not worrying if he went to prison.
