Teen Charged in Accidental Fatal Shooting

A tragic incident on Thursday, May 14, resulted in a 14-year-old boy being charged with third-degree murder after a 14-year-old girl was fatally shot. The shooting occurred at a residence on Springton Road in Pennsylvania. Officers responded to a 911 call and found the victim with a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she later died.

Investigators believe a group of four teenagers, two boys and two girls, were at the home. They reportedly discovered a handgun belonging to the victim's mother, which was kept in her bedroom closet. The group took the gun to an upstairs bedroom and began playing with it.

During this time, the gun discharged, firing a single bullet that struck the victim in the head. Police stated that the incident does not appear to have been an act of violence, a fight, or a dispute. A witness reportedly heard the boy exclaim, "Oh, my God, I just killed her!"

Authorities are using this incident to stress the importance of responsible firearm storage. Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt emphasized that guns are not toys and that a moment of carelessness can have irreversible consequences, forever altering the lives of those involved and the wider community.
