A teenage girl was arrested on Saturday, May 30, in connection with the alleged stabbing of three horses at a barrel racing event. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a report of an injured horse and discovered that three equine athletes had been intentionally harmed with a sharp object.
Investigators identified a teenage girl as the suspect, believing she used a knife. She had access to the barn where the horses were housed. Although the injuries are not life-threatening, the affected horses are now unable to compete in the 2026 NBHA Professional's Choice Las Vegas Super Show.
The suspect was located and taken into custody at a nearby hotel. She was subsequently transported to Clark County Juvenile Hall and booked on multiple charges, including willful or malicious killing, maiming, or torturing of an animal, and felony malicious destruction of private property exceeding $5,000 in value. The National Barrel Horse Association confirmed the "isolated incident" was immediately addressed and has no ongoing threat.
