Boy Posed as Witness After Random Schoolboy Murder

A 15-year-old boy has admitted to the random murder of 12-year-old Leo Ross, who was walking home from school in Birmingham. The court heard that the attacker, who cannot be named for legal reasons, fatally stabbed Leo in the stomach. This unprovoked attack occurred on January 21st and was the culmination of three days of serious violence by the teenager against strangers in Trittiford Mill Park.

Following the murder, the boy callously pretended to be a witness, even providing a fabricated account to police who were performing CPR on Leo. He stated he hadn't touched the victim because it "could put me in the case." Leo, described as a model student with no behavioral issues, was an easy target for the physically larger attacker. The court also heard about two other serious assaults the teenager committed in the days prior, including attacking an elderly woman with her walking stick and pushing her into a river.

The teenager pleaded guilty to murder, two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and possessing a knife. He will be sentenced on February 10th. Police described his behavior as "sinister" and noted his lack of remorse, even taunting officers during his arrest. The murder weapon, found with both the killer's and Leo's DNA, was recovered from a river.
