In a concerning incident last month, two BA second-year students were arrested for allegedly editing and circulating obscene images of women using multiple fake Instagram accounts. The accused, identified as Subhash Yadav (20) and Suraj Kumar (19), are accused of targeting the complainant's sister after a heated argument, uploading morphed obscene images on social media to publicly shame her and her friends.
According to the police, the tech-savvy youths used Wi-Fi connections of their neighbors and nearby houses to conceal their digital footprint and mislead investigators. However, a joint probe by the local police and Cyber Crime Unit was able to trace the accused through technical data shared by Instagram, including IP logs. When the complainant's device was examined, investigators found traces of deleted data, suggesting the perpetrator was someone known to the victim.
An FIR was registered with Mohanlalganj police following a complaint from a resident of Ranikheda Majra Bhaundri. The accused have been booked for their alleged involvement in the disturbing incident.
