Teacher Pleads Guilty to Savage Principal Stabbing
15 Apr
Summary
- Teacher admits guilt to charges of attacking principal with knives.
- Attack occurred after teacher's contract was not renewed.
- Assistant principal's bravery helped stop the assault.

A teacher accused of a violent stabbing of his principal has signaled a readiness to plead guilty. Kim Ramchen, 37, faces charges related to an alleged attack on Keysborough Secondary School principal Aaron Sykes last December. Police assert that Ramchen used two knives against Mr. Sykes before being subdued by assistant principal Matt Sloan.
Ramchen's legal representative informed the Dandenong Magistrates' Court that a plea resolution is expected at the next hearing. This follows psychological assessments indicating Ramchen has serious issues but is fit to instruct his lawyers. The court previously heard concerns about his mental fitness, with diagnoses including autism spectrum disorder and schizophrenic spectrum disorder.
The alleged incident unfolded after Ramchen learned his teaching contract would not be renewed. He reportedly confessed to police about "snapping" due to anger over the job loss. Mr. Sykes sustained injuries to his face and forearm, and a knife was held to his throat before Mr. Sloan intervened.
Ramchen remains in custody after his bail application was denied due to an extreme re-offending risk. His mother was the former host of "The Price is Right," Jacqueline Ramchen, who disappeared in 1992. Ramchen is scheduled to return to court on April 29.
