A government primary school teacher from Bijnor, Mujib-ur-Rahman, aged 54, has accused eight individuals, including purported relatives of the late singer Mohammed Rafi, of defrauding him of Rs 65 lakh. Rahman alleged that the accused promised him influential railway jobs for 30 family members and a contract to run a railway canteen.
Rahman claims he befriended the accused, identified as Irfan Parvez Ahmed and his family, approximately 20 years ago. He met them in Mumbai when attending celebrations for Mohammed Rafi's birth anniversary, an event he reportedly attends annually in Bandra. The alleged deception occurred in 2021 when the accused leveraged their supposed connections with railway officials.
Rahman stated he transferred about Rs 65 lakh across a dozen bank accounts in 2021 based on their assurances. Despite repeated follow-ups over the past five years, the promised employment and contract were not secured, nor was his money returned. He also reported that the accused threatened him when he demanded his money back.
