A profound tragedy has befallen the Windaroo community with the discovery of Year 5 teacher Kate Paterson, 38, and her one-year-old daughter, April, deceased in their Belivah home. The horrific scene was uncovered after police responded to a traffic accident on Thursday morning involving Dr. Blake Seers, the victims' husband and father.
Dr. Seers, an ocean data scientist, was found with a life-threatening throat injury after reportedly running into traffic and being struck by a vehicle. A significant blood trail led officers to the home where the mother and child were found.
He is currently hospitalized under police guard, with detectives anxious to interview him once his condition allows. While online speculation has been rampant, Dr. Seers' family has implored the public to cease judgment, emphasizing that the situation is not a case of domestic violence and urging for privacy and calm.
Ms. Paterson was a highly regarded teacher at Windaroo State School, remembered by parents as kind and caring. The community has organized a candlelit vigil in her and April's memory. Dr. Seers is employed by the CSIRO and is known for his extensive research in marine science and data modeling.
