A poolside party in Sydney's wealthy North Turramurra descended into brutal violence when a guest was stabbed ten times. The incident, fueled by alcohol and cocaine, saw Jesse William Ratcliff, 32, attack Lazarus Briggs, 28, with a 30cm kitchen knife. Briggs suffered critical injuries, including a severed artery in his arm and perforated bowels.
The confrontation began as an argument over food shared from a kitchen knife, escalating rapidly after Briggs slapped Ratcliff and then punched the homeowner, David Harper. Ratcliff, claiming self-defense amid a physical struggle, repeatedly stabbed Briggs. Paramedics arrived to a scene of significant blood loss, and Briggs was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Ratcliff was arrested at the scene and initially faced multiple charges, which were later reduced to recklessly causing grievous bodily harm. He has made full admissions and is scheduled to be sentenced in the NSW District Court, facing a potential maximum penalty of ten years imprisonment.
