Summary

- Over 17kg cannabis and 25kg ketamine were seized.
- Ringleader faces life imprisonment for drug supply charges.

A clandestine drug operation, allegedly led by music producer Oliver Dibley, was dismantled by police following a significant bust in Sydney's inner-west. Acting on intelligence since August, officers discovered a hidden room in a Leichhardt music studio, accessible through a secret door concealed by electric guitars. Inside, a vast quantity of illicit substances was found, including over 17kg of cannabis, 25kg of ketamine, 2.5kg of cocaine, and 3.5kg of MDMA.
More than 18,000 tablets believed to be LSD, magic mushrooms, and meth, along with $200,000 in cash, were also seized during searches across multiple Sydney suburbs. The total value of the drugs confiscated is estimated at approximately $5.5 million. Nine individuals have been arrested, including Azaria Byrne, 45, the frontman of Sydney band The Art, and his partner Brooke Mitchell, 28.
Byrne and Mitchell have been remanded in custody for eight weeks, facing numerous drug supply charges, with Byrne charged with 10 counts of large commercial drug supply, potentially leading to life imprisonment. Oliver Dibley, allegedly the ringleader, faces 17 similar charges. All three are scheduled to appear in court again on May 14.
