Summary
- Police fatally shot a sword-wielding man during a standoff.
- A woman was held against her will in the suspect's car.
- The incident began after an argument at a coffee shop.

A sword-wielding man, identified as 54-year-old Jason William Sexton, was fatally shot by a SWAT officer on Saturday in Nashville. The confrontation escalated after Sexton allegedly threatened a coffee shop clerk with a sword.
Hours before the shooting, Sexton reportedly argued with a clerk over payment and returned with a full-size sword, but the clerk locked the doors. Police were alerted after a relative reported Sexton was dangerous and displaying the sword on Instagram.
Officers tracked Sexton's vehicle and, upon stopping it, found him outside with the sword. A woman inside the car informed officers she was being held against her will. After over an hour of attempts to de-escalate, SWAT Officer Joshua Baney fired three shots, fatally wounding Sexton.
The 26-year-old woman was unharmed. Officer Baney is undergoing administrative review as the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation conducts a separate inquiry into the use of force. Sexton also had outstanding warrants for violating an order of protection and criminal trespassing.
