A custodial death in Lucknow has ignited controversy, with the family of 29-year-old Mithun Kumar alleging police brutality led to his demise. Mithun, an electrician, was arrested on December 16 on theft charges and reportedly died in jail on Friday.
His family claims he was subjected to severe beatings with belts and sticks at a police outpost after his arrest. Despite experiencing intense pain, they allege he was held for days and transferred to jail without receiving necessary medical attention.
Jail officials confirmed that initial medical checks upon Mithun's admission on December 19 revealed injury marks, including bruises on his back and shoulder. He was reportedly unwell and had not eaten prior to his incarceration.
