Suspended Bank Secretary Found Dead in Apparent Suicide

On Sunday morning, a former official of the Vellanad Service Co-operative Bank was found hanging from a tree on the premises of his house. The deceased has been identified as Anil Kumar, 57, a native of Velloorpara in Vellanad.
Kumar had previously served as the secretary in-charge of the bank. However, he had been under suspension for more than one and a half years in connection with alleged financial irregularities amounting to Rs 1.5 crore at the bank. At present, the bank is under administrative control.
According to the police, Kumar was set to retire next year, but had been depressed for quite some time due to his prolonged suspension and the ongoing investigation into the bank's finances. No suicide note was found at the scene. The police have registered a case as per Section 194 of the BNS for unnatural death, and the body has been handed over to Kumar's relatives after a postmortem examination.
