On November 18, 2025, police in Hyderabad, India arrested 7 people in connection with the suspected honor killing of a 35-year-old man. The victim, Yerra Rajashekhar, was allegedly abducted from his home on November 12th by his brother's girlfriend's family members, who then strangled and burned his body.
The prime accused include the woman's father, K Venkataiah, and her grandfather, K Ramulu. Five other accomplices, who were family friends, were also arrested. The incident came to light when Rajashekhar's wife filed a kidnapping complaint, leading to the discovery of his charred remains.
Investigations revealed that the accused were enraged over the victim's brother, Yerra Chandrashekhar, eloping with their daughter, a woman from a different caste community. Chandrashekhar, a 22-year-old auto driver, had previously faced opposition from the family over the inter-caste relationship. The accused allegedly targeted Rajashekhar, believing he had helped the couple elope to Nizamabad.
Police are still searching for another suspect, Ganesh, who remains at large. The gruesome murder has shocked the local community and highlights the ongoing issue of honor killings in parts of India.
