Suspect Wanted for Fatal Shooting Killed in Police Confrontation

On October 23rd, 2025, Niagara regional police reported that the suspect wanted for the fatal shooting of a woman in Brampton, Ontario has been shot and killed by police. The suspect, 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, was located at a gas station in Niagara Falls during the early hours of the morning.

After an interaction with the police's emergency task unit, Deschepper was shot and killed. No officers were injured in the incident. The province's Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate to investigate the officer-involved shooting.

Deschepper was wanted in connection with the shooting death of a woman in a plaza parking lot in Brampton on the previous day. Hours after the incident, an Amber Alert was issued for a one-year-old girl who was believed to be with Deschepper, but she was later found safe with family members.

Authorities believe the incident was a case of intimate partner violence, but did not provide further details. Deschepper was also wanted in 2023 for firearm-related offenses, and was out on bail awaiting trial at the time of the fatal shooting.
