Derrick Callella, a 42-year-old man from Hawthorne, made an appearance in a Tucson federal courtroom this past Thursday. He is accused of sending a fake ransom note as part of the investigation into the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie.
Nancy Guthrie, the mother of TODAY show host Savannah Guthrie, is believed to have been abducted from her Tucson home. Callella's federal court appearance in Arizona follows his release on bond from a previous hearing in Santa Ana.
The FBI arrested Callella in Hawthorne the week prior. He is facing charges that include transmitting a demand for ransom and using a telecommunication device with the intent to abuse, threaten, or harass an individual.
