Supreme Court Rejects Alex Jones' Appeal, $1.4 Billion Judgment Stands
14 Oct
Summary
- Supreme Court rejects Alex Jones' appeal
- $1.4 billion judgment against Jones over Sandy Hook hoax claims
- Jones filed for bankruptcy in late 2022 to avoid paying the judgment

In a significant legal defeat for conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, the Supreme Court has rejected his appeal and upheld the $1.4 billion judgment against him over his false claims that the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax.
Jones, the founder of the Infowars website, had argued that the judge was wrong to find him liable for defamation and infliction of emotional distress without holding a trial on the merits of the allegations brought by the families of the Sandy Hook victims. However, the Supreme Court issued its order without even asking the families to respond to Jones' appeal.
The massive $1.4 billion judgment was issued in late 2021 after the judge found Jones repeatedly failed to comply with court orders and turn over evidence to the Sandy Hook families. A jury later agreed on a $964 million verdict, which the judge later increased by an additional $473 million in punitive damages.
Facing financial ruin, Jones filed for bankruptcy in late 2022, but the court has now rejected his attempt to overturn the judgment through the appeals process. The battle to collect the full amount owed to the Sandy Hook families is ongoing, with the Infowars assets currently being auctioned off to help pay the defamation judgments.
