Supreme Court Cancels Bail for Wife in Honeymoon Murder

In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Thursday cancelled the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is accused of murdering her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. The incident occurred in May 2025 during the couple's honeymoon in Meghalaya. The Supreme Court's decision came in response to an appeal filed by the Meghalaya government against the bail previously granted by a Shillong trial court and upheld by the Meghalaya High Court.

Sonam, 25, from Indore, was arrested in June 2025 after her husband's body was discovered in a gorge a week after they went missing during their honeymoon. Investigations revealed allegations of a conspiracy involving hired assailants for financial motives. The court directed Sonam to surrender within three weeks, with a provision to move a fresh bail application after six months if the trial does not progress swiftly.
