Supreme Court Rejects Murderer's Plea for Mercy

The Supreme Court recently declined to consider a plea filed by Swamy Shraddananda, who is currently imprisoned for the remainder of his natural life for the murder of his wife. The bench, comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi, advised the petitioner to present his grievances to the Karnataka state government. Consequently, his advocate withdrew the plea to pursue it at the state level.
Shraddananda, an 84-year-old individual also known as Murali Manohar Mishra, had sought a review of a previous Supreme Court verdict from July 2008. His wife was reportedly the grand-daughter of a former 'dewan' of the princely state of Mysore. The prisoner was hoping for an expedited decision on his mercy plea.
This action comes after the apex court had, in the preceding year, refused to entertain a similar petition by Shraddananda. That petition sought a review of the earlier verdict which had mandated that he remain incarcerated for the rest of his life. The current ruling reiterates the finality of his life sentence.
