The Supreme Court has quashed criminal proceedings against comedian Samay Raina and four other social media influencers. These cases stemmed from remarks made about people with disabilities. The apex court praised the influencers' genuine efforts in organizing a chess tournament and raising awareness for specially-abled persons and those with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA).
The bench, comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, acknowledged the influencers' positive contributions and their engagement with the SMA Cure Foundation.
The top court appreciated that these influencers have been actively engaging with the foundation and are willing to host individuals affected by SMA on their shows. Future fundraising events are also scheduled.
Separately, the Supreme Court announced it would consider issuing comprehensive directions aimed at protecting the dignity of disabled individuals. This broader consideration follows interactions with a delegation of persons with disabilities, which provided valuable insights to the judges.
