2 Jun
Summary
- Accused's bail plea denied by Supreme Court judges.
- Murder echoes Bollywood film plot, court remarked.
- Accused was 18 when he allegedly committed murder.

In a striking observation, the Supreme Court declined to entertain a bail plea filed by Sagar, the main accused in a 2020 double murder case. The incident, which occurred in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, involved the killing of a woman and her father just days before her wedding.
A bench led by Justice Vikram Nath drew parallels between the murders and a Bollywood film, remarking that the accused's alleged actions were like those of a "daredevil" and reminiscent of a "girlfriend killer" scenario. The judge specifically referenced an Ajay Devgn movie, likely "Omkara," a film known for its dramatic and violent plot.
The case stems from an FIR lodged in June 2020. Investigators described the accused as being obsessed with the woman, who was planning to marry another man. Two days before the wedding, the accused and associates allegedly opened fire at the woman's home, resulting in the deaths of the bride-to-be and her father, with several other family members injured.
Sagar, who was reportedly around 18 years old at the time of the alleged offense, has been in judicial custody since 2020. After the Supreme Court indicated its disinclination to grant bail, the accused's counsel sought permission to withdraw the petition, which was subsequently allowed, enabling them to approach the High Court again.
