Suffolk Strangler Admits Victoria Hall Murder After 26 Years

Steve Wright, known as the Suffolk strangler, has finally admitted to the murder of 17-year-old Victoria Hall. The 67-year-old pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to kidnapping and murdering Victoria on September 19, 1999, more than 25 years after her disappearance.

Wright also confessed to the attempted kidnap of Emily Doherty, then 22, in Felixstowe on September 18, 1999. This is the first time Wright has confessed to any of his crimes, despite previous pleas from his family.

He is already serving a whole-life prison sentence for the murders of five women in 2006. The victims, all sex workers in Ipswich, were Tania Nicol, Gemma Adams, Anneli Alderton, Paula Clennell, and Annette Nicholls.

Wright's guilty pleas come after a judge ruled that jurors could be informed of his previous murder convictions. Prosecutors highlighted similarities in the way the women were asphyxiated and the places their bodies were found.

Victoria Hall disappeared after a night out with a friend and her body was discovered five days later in a ditch about 25 miles from where she was last seen. Her mother passed away last December, before her daughter's killer was brought to justice.
