A 21-year-old medical student, Anishkar Chouhan, a native of Kalaburagi, was found dead in his hostel room at BRIMS Medical College in Bidar, Karnataka. Police confirmed the death was by hanging and classified it as a suicide case after initial investigations.
The investigation revealed that Chouhan, a final-year student, had lost a significant amount of money, estimated between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000, playing online games. This sum was reportedly borrowed from his friends, leading to considerable financial distress.
Authorities are working to retrieve deleted data from the student's phone to identify the specific online games involved. The student's father has arrived and is filing a formal complaint. This incident occurs despite the government's ban on online games involving money, which was enacted last year due to public health concerns.
