Andhra Pradesh: Six-Year-Old Dies After Homework Punishment

A tragic incident has been reported in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where a six-year-old student passed away following alleged corporal punishment from his teacher over unfinished homework. The student reportedly fell unconscious after being disciplined and was rushed to King George Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Andhra Pradesh education department has established a three-member committee, including the Regional Joint Director, District Education Officer, and Revenue Divisional Officer, to thoroughly examine the cause of the student's death. This committee will review the events leading to the child falling unconscious and the findings from the hospital's medical reports.

Authorities have assured the victim's family of full support and indicated that legal action will be initiated against the teacher and the school management. The Minister of HRD and IT has also directed the education department to conduct workshops aimed at sensitizing teachers against administering corporal punishment.

Police have registered a case under sections dealing with death under suspicious circumstances and are reviewing CCTV footage from the classroom, which allegedly shows the teacher slapping the student. The teacher, however, claimed she did not hit the boy excessively.
