In Lucknow, a 19-year-old student was arrested at the KD Singh Babu stadium Metro station after an illegal country-made pistol was discovered in his bag during routine security checks on Tuesday. Metro security personnel alerted the police, leading to the apprehension of the youth by a team from Hazratganj police station.
The accused, identified as Akshat Kanaujia from Vrindavan colony, was found with a 0.315-bore pistol. He claimed to have found the weapon near Janeshwar Mishra park and was carrying it when he boarded the Metro. A case has been registered against him under section 3/25 of the Arms Act.
Police are currently investigating Kanaujia's background to ascertain if he has any prior criminal record or connections to illegal arms networks. He is set to be produced before the court, and the investigation is being carried out based on a complaint filed by a sub-inspector.
