In a bizarre turn of events, a mobile phone stolen from a Chennai assistant director was later couriered back to him through a delivery app. The thief, after stealing the phone, first transferred 5,000 from the victim's bank account. The phone was discovered to be completely formatted upon its return.
The incident occurred when the assistant director, Selvendran, had left his phone on his two-wheeler outside a juice shop. CCTV footage confirmed the theft. He later filed a complaint at the Vadapalani police station, and an investigation is ongoing.
Following the theft, the thief contacted the victim's wife, Sangeetha, claiming the phone was picked up accidentally. The caller initially bargained for 1,500 to return the device. The thief also contacted other contacts from the victim's phone, soliciting money transfers.
