9 Jun
Summary
- Stepmother arrested in New York for murder charges.
- Father previously charged after admitting to beating the child.
- Child abused for lying about field trip money.

Authorities have charged a second individual in the murder of 10-year-old Fatima Kone in Smyrna. The child's stepmother, 37-year-old Adiaratou Coulibaly, was apprehended in New York City on June 5 and will face extradition to Delaware for second-degree murder by abuse.
This development follows the arrest of the child's father, 49-year-old Badara Kone, on May 28. He was charged with murder after telling police that his daughter may have sustained a head injury during a beating with a belt. Police stated that the abuse escalated within the residence on Oakwynn Circle.
According to court documents, the severe and prolonged abuse, which involved various objects and forced exercises, occurred because Fatima had been untruthful about field trip money. Badara Kone also faces child abuse charges related to his two sons, aged 11 and 15, and is being held on a $180,000 bond.
