9 Feb
Summary
- Stepfather arrested six years after absconding in minor's rape case.
- The 2020 case involved rape and illegal abortion of a 13-year-old girl.
- Crime branch arrested the accused, who was remanded to judicial custody.

Six years after absconding, the stepfather of a 13-year-old victim has been apprehended by the crime branch. The arrest relates to a 2020 case of rape and illegal abortion in the Sundargarh district. The 43-year-old accused was presented before a Pocso court and subsequently remanded into judicial custody.
The investigation began after a district child protection officer filed an FIR in June 2020. Allegations included repeated sexual assault by a senior police officer and an attempted illegal abortion of the minor, arranged at a police station. This prompted a crime branch probe.
Prior arrests in the case include a police inspector, who was dismissed from service and arrested, a doctor allegedly involved in the abortion, and a homeguard-cum-driver accused of assisting.
