St. Louis Lambert International Airport experienced a tragic event on Friday morning when police fatally shot a man. Airport police officers encountered the individual in Terminal 1, allegedly carrying a knife. The suspect reportedly refused repeated demands to drop the weapon, prompting officers to deploy a taser.
Following the taser deployment, the suspect allegedly continued to advance towards the officers. In response, a second officer discharged his service weapon, striking the man. Authorities pronounced him deceased at the scene shortly after the incident. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
Airport operations were not disrupted, according to reports. Airport Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge stated that the event was tragic for the airport community. An investigation into the circumstances, including why the individual was in the specific area with a weapon, is underway.
