Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has initiated a formal inquiry into allegations of a fake degree certificate scam. An employee within the university's Finance and Accounts Department is accused of accepting Rs 3 lakh from a rickshaw driver. This payment was allegedly in exchange for a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree for the driver's son, bypassing standard academic procedures.
The complainant reported receiving suspicious documents, including separate degree certificates for each academic year and certificates bearing the outdated "University of Pune" name instead of the current "Savitribai Phule Pune University." Following his suspicion, the complainant submitted a formal complaint to the Vice-Chancellor's office.
The university, acting on the complaint lodged approximately a month ago, has formed a fact-finding committee. This committee will thoroughly examine all aspects of the alleged scam. SPPU has stated that both administrative and legal actions will be pursued against any individuals found responsible once the investigation concludes.
