Cop Caught Speeding: Gross Misconduct Finding
4 Nov
Summary
- Special constable drove 106mph on duty without emergency.
- Officer resigned before misconduct hearing, would have been sacked.
- Vehicle lights and siren used without proper policing purpose.
A special constable, Adam Jeskins, has been found guilty of gross misconduct following an incident where he drove a marked police vehicle at speeds reaching 106mph. This occurred on October 5, 2024, on the M1 in Northamptonshire and the M6 in Warwickshire. Jeskins, who had served over a decade and was part of the road safety team, resigned from Northamptonshire Police in August, prior to a misconduct hearing.
The hearing, which Jeskins did not attend, heard that he used the vehicle's lights and siren without a justifiable policing purpose. He also exceeded speed limits, including in areas with reduced limits for roadworks. Four days after the incident, Warwickshire Police issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution. Jeskins had claimed he was driving at an 'enforcement speed' but the force stated this was untrue, and he was also reportedly late for a cadet meeting.
If he had not resigned, Jeskins would have been dismissed from the force. The panel acknowledged his previous good character and awards, but concluded his actions were deliberate. He was responsible for training 20 cadets, a position of trust, and was aware of the severe consequences if an accident had occurred at such high speeds.
