At the time of discovery, the ambient temperature was 40 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind chill making it feel as cold as 23 degrees. The interior of the home was found in extreme disarray, emitting a strong odor of ammonia from accumulated waste, and no food or water was available for the animals.
