Jewelry Thief Shot After Armed Encounter

Police in Shaktinagar, Sonbhadra district, apprehended a man armed with illegal weapons and in possession of stolen jewelry following a shootout near the Kali Mandir bus stand on Saturday. The arrest followed an encounter where the suspect opened fire on law enforcement. In self-defense, officers returned fire, injuring the alleged thief in his left leg.
The recovered items included a .32 bore pistol, two empty cartridges, and a substantial quantity of jewelry, including chains, anklets, bangles, and nose rings. These items were part of a loot registered on November 15th. The accused, identified as Sajan, was taken to CHC Anpara for medical treatment.
During interrogation, Sajan confessed that the robbery was meticulously planned at an accomplice's residence. The operation involved four individuals, with one tasked to alert the others once the jeweler closed his shop. The victim was subsequently robbed at gunpoint of a bag filled with jewelry as he headed home.
