Mom's Video Proof: Son Shot, Faces Charges
2 Jul
Summary
- Mother claims video shows her son is innocent.
- Son faces aggravated menacing charge after being shot.
- Dayton police have not commented on the new video evidence.
A Dayton mother is asserting her son's innocence, providing security video evidence after he was shot and later charged with aggravated menacing. The shooting occurred last month outside Belmont Billiards on Watervliet Avenue, where Devin Delaney was struck by a bullet in his thumb and side. Following the incident, Delaney was charged, though his mother claims police initially deemed the shooting justifiable.
The mother obtained security footage from the establishment, which she believes clearly demonstrates her son did not instigate the dispute that led to him being shot. She recently presented this video to Dayton police detectives, who reportedly did not possess it. However, police stated they intend to maintain the existing charges against her son, who is preparing to hire legal counsel.
Delaney's next court appearance in his aggravated menacing case is scheduled for next week at Dayton Municipal Court. News Center 7 has reached out to the Dayton Police Department for comment regarding the mother's claims and the ongoing investigation into the gunfire last month, but a spokesperson stated, "At this time, the Dayton Police Department does not have a comment."
