A tragic incident has resulted in a young man's conviction for manslaughter after he threw a brick that fatally injured his father. The 20-year-old, who stated he acted in self-defense, was sentenced to three years and four months at a young offender institution.
The fatal event unfolded on June 16 when the son, Thomas Dear, hurled a brick through his father's open van window. Although initially charged with murder, his plea of manslaughter was accepted by the prosecution. Evidence suggests a heated argument preceded the act, with both individuals seen on CCTV and the father reportedly approaching his son with a garden fork.
The brick struck Thomas Dear Senior in the head, causing a significant injury. He subsequently drove away but suffered a cardiac arrest on Lombard Street, Newark, and was pronounced dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination linked the head trauma to the fatal cardiac seizure, concluding the investigation into this devastating loss.
