The incident began when a person approached two vehicles involved in a collision near the Deep Creek Picnic Area. One vehicle, a white SUV, drove away, while a silver or gray pickup truck with a lift kit motioned for the individual to approach. Upon doing so, the driver brandished a handgun.
The victim fled as gunshots were heard. The suspect, a thin male fitting a specific description, and a group of about ten individuals, were seen leaving the area in the pickup truck, the SUV, and a grey sedan, heading towards Bryson City. The park service emphasizes that visitor information is crucial for investigators.
