Babysitter Kidnapped Sisters, Found in Apartment

Two young sisters were safely recovered on Monday morning after a frantic search following their alleged kidnapping by their babysitter. Four-year-old Zola Cooper and her 11-month-old sister, Norah Cooper, were taken by Lakesha Brown, a woman the girls' mother, Elicia Redding, had befriended through a mothers' Facebook group. Redding reported that Brown had asked to take the children out for the day on Saturday, agreeing to return them to Redding's mother's home. However, Brown never arrived and instead sent misleading text messages claiming a car crash, which Redding suspected were false when hospitals had no record of the children. Police issued an alert, and the break in the case came when investigators received information about Brown's possible location at a southwest Atlanta apartment complex. Responding officers followed the sound of a baby crying and found Brown with both girls. The children were taken to a hospital and are expected to be fine. Brown faces expected charges, and investigators are also looking into an outstanding warrant from Alabama for her failure to appear in a previous case. The motive for the alleged kidnapping remains under investigation.
