Beloved Singer Found Dead: Carer Arrested After Chase

The body of Velvet Pesu, a 46-year-old singer, songwriter, and visual artist, was discovered on the back deck of a property in Buccan, south of Brisbane, on Monday. Pesu, who had a 20-year career in the industry and performed at the Woodford Folk Festival, was also recognized for her extensive philanthropic work, including directing the Heart Health Foundation and assisting the homeless.
Police located Pesu's body after a relative filed a missing persons report. Her carer, Wa'el Abdallah Saleem Alfar, 36, was subsequently arrested in New South Wales after a police pursuit on the Pacific Highway and a vehicle crash. Alfar faces charges related to police pursuit and dangerous driving.
Authorities are currently treating Ms. Pesu's death as suspicious while awaiting post-mortem examination results to determine the cause of death. As of Tuesday, Alfar had not been charged in connection with Pesu's death, and investigations are ongoing, with police keeping an open mind.
