- Singer Jack Avery was the alleged target of a murder-for-hire plot.
- Ex-girlfriend Gabbie Gonzalez and her father Francisco are charged.
- Custody dispute over daughter cited as motive for alleged plot.

Singer Jack Avery, formerly of Why Don't We, was allegedly the intended victim of a murder-for-hire plot involving his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela "Gabbie" Gonzalez, her father Francisco Gonzalez, and Kai Cordrey. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has charged the three with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder.
Prosecutors state that Francisco Gonzalez, a lawyer, allegedly sent $14,000 in 2021 to Kai Cordrey to find and hire a hitman. Cordrey, however, purportedly made contact with an undercover officer posing as a contract killer. The alleged motive behind the plot was a custody dispute over Avery and Gabbie Gonzalez's 7-year-old daughter.
Gabbie Gonzalez, who has a significant social media following, has been released on a $2 million bail. Francisco Gonzalez, extradited from Florida, and Kai Cordrey remain in custody. If convicted, the defendants face a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
