Aaron Kelly, aged 36, has been imprisoned for 52 weeks after admitting to a string of offenses including 16 counts of shoplifting and 11 breaches of a criminal behavior order. Kelly had been prohibited from numerous stores in the south of Nottingham and West Bridgford since November 2024. Despite these bans, he targeted shops in October and November of this year, stealing items like sweets and chocolates.
His offending spree also included threatening behavior. In addition to the theft and order breaches, Kelly pleaded guilty to possessing heroin and two Class B drugs. Authorities stated that Kelly's relentless offending caused distress to shop staff, emphasizing that while support is available, repeat offenders will face incarceration.
Insp Steve Dalby highlighted the police's commitment to addressing persistent shoplifting. He noted that while efforts are made to help offenders break their cycle of crime, those who do not engage and continue to steal will be prosecuted. Support services are offered, but continued criminal activity leads to custodial sentences.
