Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly recently garnered attention by wearing a diamond necklace seized from alleged drug kingpins during a press conference. The jewelry, along with other luxury items, was confiscated as part of 'Operation Loose Lips,' a lengthy investigation spanning approximately 15 years. The operation culminated in the arrests of brothers Claude and John Harris, who are accused of being high-ranking figures in a drug trafficking and money laundering enterprise. Claude's girlfriend, Aleah Fagan, was also apprehended.
During the press event, Sheriff Staly displayed a variety of seized assets, including eight vehicles, five firearms, 1.5 kilograms of cocaine, and nearly $101,000 in cash. Additionally, an estimated $100,000 worth of designer shoes, handbags, and outfits were presented. The sheriff pointed out the discrepancy between the suspects' claimed income and the extensive wealth they allegedly amassed. The confiscated cash was reportedly found hidden in unusual locations, such as a vacuum cleaner and an air fryer.
Following their arrests, the Harris brothers entered no contest pleas to their respective charges. John Harris received a sentence of three and a half years in prison for the sale or possession of cocaine. Claude Harris was sentenced to fourteen and a half years for trafficking in cocaine and money laundering. Aleah Fagan faces multiple charges related to drug possession and drug paraphernalia.
The sheriff's office plans to auction the seized luxury items, with proceeds intended to benefit the local community. This initiative aims to repurpose assets acquired through illicit activities for positive community impact.
